How The Structure of This Class Relates to My Classroom

I teach very young children - 3 and 4 year olds - and our school year always starts with the most basic of concepts. Even before they can learn about writing their names, learning the alphabet, and learning the numbers, we have to build their confidence with even simpler every day experiences. They are just learning to get dressed by themselves, learning about schedule and routine, going to the bathroom on their, etc. Praising them for doing even the simplest tasks builds their confidence as learners. 

This semester has taken a similar route on our way to learning about compelling experiences. We had to build our confidence by learning about how to make photos and films more compelling so that we can use those tools and build on our learning in other topics. I love the way lesson planning for my young students has to make sense, or they have no idea what's going on. This seems to me to be true at any age and at any level of schooling. If we don't start with the basics, then we can easily get lost and frustrated, and then we lose our interest in learning.
